Under the bramble bush is under the sea (bum-bum-bum)

I should warn you, it's only a 5 lined song but requires a bit of an intro in order to explain the actions - you need to be able to sing and clap at the same time (always difficult for boys to do).

This song should be sung with a partner who is clapping hands with yours:
Position 1: Face your partner
Position 2: left palm down, right palm up (clap together)
Position 3: right palm down, left palm up (clap together)
Position 4: palms push out (clap together)
Position 5: clap your hands together
Repeat 2-5 until you get a bum-bum-bum and you repeat Position 4 three times here and then continue.

So, the song goes like this:
Under the bramble bush is under the sea (bum-bum-bum)
True love to you my darling true love for me
I will get married
And raise a family
Under the old bramble tree (bum-bum-bum-bum)

Oh yes, At the lines 'I will get married & raise a family' you only do position 2 & 3. Sounds complicated but it's easy.
It was a playground classic, doesn't make any sense whatsoever, but who cares - I can still do it now, if you want to do it? but if you're crap it doesn't work.

  8. In Australia in the 60s and 70s it went: "Under the brown bush, under the sea, boom boom boom, true love forever, true love for me and when we marry, we'll have a family, of little children by the sea." Much more sedate.

  9. When I was young we did it as
'Under the bramble bushes, down by the sea boom boom boom
True love, for you my darling, true love, for me
    When we get married
    We'll have a family
    Of sixteen children,
    In a
Row, Row, row your boat, gently down the stream,
Tip your teacher overboard and listen to her/him scream
Five weeks later there's nothing to be seen,
    Except the teachers underpants
    Floating down the steam.'
A bit weird, but yeah. Lol xD

  15. OK Guys in my country (I rather not say which one)we played the same game, but didn't know english as kids so for at least 30 years kids in our country have been playing this game and singing lyrics as follows: "Under the lady, under the sea, boom, boom, boom. Toola fa merry, Toola fa si, bastiano merry, under the lady, under the sea." Try not to laugh too hard :) We had a great laugh today in the Office when we found the actual lyrics..

  17. We sang:
Down by the bramble bushes, down by the sea (bum bum bum) Johnny broke a bottle and he blamed it on me. I told my mama, she hit me with a stick. I told my papa, he hit me with a brick. I told my teacher, she said: 12 + 12 is 24, push your teacher out the door. If she says don’t do that, hit her with a baseball bat. I don’t care, I don’t care, I can’t see her underwear. Is it blue or is it white? Oh my God it’s full of sh*te.

    1. this is the closest one to our version that i’ve seen here!!

      in primary school we said:
“under the bumble bushes down by the sea - boom boom boom
Jonny broke a bottle and he blamed it on me
I told my mummy, she hit me with a stick
I told my daddy, he hit me with a brick
I told my teacher, she said 12 + 12 is 24 so shut your mouth and say no more
Jonny was grounded sent to bed, fell down the bannister and broke his head
      Now. Jonny. Is. Dead.

      (extra bit we sometimes sang):
Row row row your boat gently down the stream
Tip your teacher overboard and then she’ll start to scream

  21. Interesting to see the international variations of one of my favourite childhood clapping songs from the early to mid 1980's.

It was a popular playground pastime at my village primary school in the south-west of Scotland (UK) and went like this:

    "Down by the bramble bushes
    Down by the sea,
    Boom, boom, boom,
True love for you, my darling,
    True love for me.
When we get married, we'll have a family.
A boy for you. A girl for me.
    Tum tiddely tum tum. Succeed."
